good friend and collaborator ( see TRUNK ) Daniel Michael Clark has a new release out today.
he sent me a copy a week ago and it’s not been off my tape player since
it’s great. it’s a mini journey through atmospheric soundscapes with lo-fi scratchy telephone receiver vocal songs
if you don’t have a tape player i think you can download it, but there is some brilliant hand printed art work too

music friends peoples
as of late, there has been a fair bit of activity amongst friends and musicians i’ve had the pleasure of playing with, and i wonder that i could mention them. and i am.
earlier this year good friend and collaborator stuart warwick released his epic second album under his own name, the dark, weird and playful ‘the butchers voice’. featuring pretty full on cover art by the man himself and he even let me ruin one of his songs by making noise with my mouth all the way through it
old friend johny lamb has just released his third thirty pounds of bone album, the beast that is ‘i cannot sing you here but for songs where‘
laish have released album number two, the deceptively titled and brilliant ‘obituaries’
a couple of releases coming up soon that i’m really looking forward to include label mate crayola lectern with ’the rise and fall of crayola lectern’ (love him) and a new haxan cloak release ‘excavation’ yes!
my friend sarah plays bass in fever dream check them out here
brighton band i’m being good new album ‘mountain language’ is on my walkman (i guess these are almost all brighton/london bands)
the elusive diamond family archive has just released a couple of new songs here
i’ve heard a little of the upcoming kristin mclement release and it’s sure to be a real treat. also last night heard some new mid west blues stuff that sounded big and scary and great
i’ve been lucky enough to hear some great live sets lately also, either playing the same show or not, including the brilliant embla quickbeam, the tape experiments of dm clark and the beautiful voice of tiny ruins the ever amazing amusing richard dawson and the remarkable guitar skills of elwood gate
even my dad has been busy fronting country rock outfit no country for old men
this kind of activity amongst those around me make me realize just how slowly i move creatively, however, my new writings are beginning to take the form of an album that will hopefully be out/completed this year. seems that madness and death are my minds favorite subject matter at present
onward!

Tomorrow: First performance in a long time with dear old pal Birdengine
02/10/12
eyeless show and other things
i’m honoured to have been asked to headline eyeless records 5th birthday show
i’d never heard of eyeless before but turns out they’re a brighton based cdr/tape cassette label releasing al sorts of noise since 2007
check out their bandcamp here
i’m especially looking forward to it, as my good friend and long-time collaborator dm clark will also be playing a rare live set (check out our 2008 improvised album TRUNK)
so, this will be my last birdengine show for some time. i’m currently writing and recording things both birdengine and otherwise and although it feels strange to be turning down show offers, i feel it’s a good time to rest it
in other things birdengine, another friend and musical pioneer/genius ‘animal magic tricks’ has sent me a link to a live recording of a birdengine show (i’m pretty sure it;s an omnichord i used to have) that she has slowed down, hexed and treated somehow. if you have a spare 11 minutes it’s worth a listen.
details for the eyeless show can be found here it’s on 13th october
